First of all the staff was great: friendly, professional, happy to go out of their way to help (for instance ordered a lovely floral arrangement for us) so we could take it to a dinner party, provided other tips on forward rail travel, etc. On top of that, the location of the hotel was fabulous--perfect for visiting the historic city center, the Opera House, Stadtpark...also very nearby were many restaurants , pubs, coffee shops banks, convenience stores, etc. Grand Ferdinand Hotel also had a great rooftop restaurant/bar--really hopping, even on a Tuesday night. Charming horse in the lobby--odd, but charming. Very comfortable bed, which was important getting into town jet-lagged. And the black-out curtains worked great. The room is smallish, but in a central city with a boutique-style hotel that was not unexpected--we've had smaller rooms in good hotels in NYC. Would definitely stay here again.

The location is perfect. Restaurant, rooftop bar and wine bar are just delightful. This is a return stay and also our friends came this time and many have stayed before as we loved it so much. The rooms are quirky. Great beds, shower is sort of in the room, this time we had a door, last time a walk in, private toilet, but room sharers who are not into public nudity might find it a bit off putting. Couples, it's fine! But the location is a huge draw, plus onsite food choices are excellent and great value. Don't miss the little wine bar next door that is a part of the hotel. Top tip, don't do B&B in the hotel, do room only and go to the wine bar for breakfast. Great eggs benedict etc!! Oh, and book the Schnitzel restaurant. It's ALWAYS full!!

A tip for the guests who would like to try the schnitzel but can not book Meisl&Schadn, the main restaurant, which was very crowded when we visited: the smaller restaurant, Gulasch & Sohne, has a shared kitchen with the main restaurant and will serve you the same schnitzel. This restaurant also provides good option for breakfast.

The hotel is quirky with a retro vibe, the rooftop pool is a real bonus with lovely relaxing bar alongside it. Breakfast has an extensive menu and is most enjoyable. Reception staff warrant a special mention as they are friendly and helpful at all times.
